Ni'ihau

Depth : 15'-130'
Topography : Vertical Walls, Lava Tubes and Tunnels
Marine Life : Lots of fish, Lobster, Rays, Monk Seals, Turtles, Cowry shells, Dolphins and Sharks.
Diveability : Very good visibility. Only normally in Summertime when windspeed is no higher than 10-20 knots (Tradewinds).

Imagine slipping off the boat into waters where so few have ventured before. The fish are unafraid of divers and larger and more numerous than any you have seen on Hawaii. Imagine the thrill of diving just off a private island where no westerner is allowed to tread - you feel the gaze of the native Hawaiians from the shore, but are unable to make out any of the 200 residents hidden on their protective island.

Imagine then, upon descent, coming across a Monk Seal, who plays around you, safe in the knowledge that this spot is as unknown and uncharted as any other. The Octopus here are huge - almost as big as the North Pacific species, feeding uninterrupted on shrimp and small fish that fill this area.

Then, on the bottom, you suddenly realise that you are treading on a part of Ni'ihau - the Forbidden Island - the only time that any westerner is allowed to stand on the island.

This is Virgin Diving at it's very best ! Due to Ni'ihau's remoteness and the law preventing travel to the island, you cannot expect more from a dive than this !

Niihau - The Forbidden Island - offers divers seeking a truly uncommon underwater experience that's world class. Niihau's pristine dive sites showcase the best of Hawaii's most remote location that's close to Kauai.

Boat Dives

Our dive boat runs off the South shore of the Island, which is sheltered by the constantly blowing North East trade winds, making the south side sunny with calm oceans. We meet at 9am at Port Allen in the small boat harbor. The usual return time form our dive charters is 1pm.

Boat dives are two tank dives at two different locations. We do provide a snack lunch. Computers are also available upon request. All tours are guided by a PADI Divemaster/Instructor. We do take specific requests for dive sites and will do our best to meet them according to weather conditions.

Between dive sites we sit and relax, enjoying the tropical sun and watch for whales or dolphins breaking the surface and discussing the marine life encountered during the previous dive site. This is also a great time to raid the snack bar !

Length of dives depend on depths and rate of consumption. Maximum time allowed for each dive is 50 minutes and you must return to the surface before you reach 500PSI.
