Now is the time to dive into the PADI Open Water Diver course, the most popular dive program in the world! As a certified PADI Open Water Diver, this is your ticket to a lifetime of intense adventure with the dive company that sets the standards in the global diving community.
For you, the new dive student, this means a higher quality course, more personalized training, and more of what you came for - the advice, guidance and support of a diving professional while you comfortably, securely enjoy learning to dive.
Our classes are very flexible and can be scheduled at your convenience. All PADI programs are performance based. The course length is approximately 30 hours total. This involves reading the Open Water Diving Manual - 5 chapters (modules), answering the Knowledge reviews at the end of each module, watching a live action video that corresponds with the manual - this can be done at your home or hotel before the lectures start (if you do not have a VCR, the live-action materials are available on DVD or CD-rom and must be viewed prior to the start of lectures), lectures are generally conducted in our dive center classroom.
After the academic sessions are completed, you will start your confined water training. These sessions will be carried out in a pool or pool like conditions. During confined water training you will proceed as you demonstrate mastery of the course skills. This allows you to work at a pace that is comfortable for you.
Your next step is 4 open water dives. You will complete 2 dives per day over 2 days. The dives are from 8am until 12 noon allowing time after the dives to sign log books and complete paperwork.
An option for the last 2 dives, is to complete your course from our boat at a special student rate - (boat charter schedule permitting) since the max depth for Open Water certification is 60'. The student rate for the boat certification dives is discounted 50% to an add'l $75.00/ea.
After students are certified divers and if they want to schedule some boat dives, we offer a 10% discount off list price on all additional boat dive tours and charters for the student.
If you are between 10 and 14 or have a child between these ages, there is a PADI Junior Open Water Diver program available. A PADI Jr Open Water Diver between the ages of 10 and 12 years may only dive with a PADI Professional, a certified parent or certified guardian to a maximum depth of 12 metres/40 feet.
For your personal comfort, we recommended students have their own mask, snorkel, fins, booties. If you do not have these items already they can be supplied to you - but you are encouraged to purchase these items. Students (currently enrolled in class) receive a 15% discount on all purchases.
This course is designed for those students who would rather complete their classroom and pool work at home and complete their open water certification dives on Kauai with Dive Kauai Scuba Center. We teach this course as students are signed up and are confirmed most often just 1-2 students per instructor. PADI Junior Open Water Diver referral programs are available.
Referral programs require you to complete your classroom and pool sessions (or any portions of your course) where you live and then you and your instructor will fill out the Open Water Referral form which you bring to us within a 12 month period and we can complete your certification as a PADI Open Water Diver. All scuba equipment and forms are provided.
We offer the 4 training dives to be completed either all from the shore OR the first 2 from shore and the last 2 from our boat with the same terms and conditions as in the Open Water description detailed above.
Please Note: For PADI Referral dive certifications, a Passport size photograph-any photo of your head and shoulders
(1 1/2" x 1 1/2") is required. A digital photo is available for $2.00/ea. Be sure to bring your logbook.
