Dear IDC Candidate,
Aloha!
Mahalo you for your interest in instructor training with Dive Kauai Scuba Center. Instructor training with DKSC will give you complete training as a diving professional. As a PADI Instructor you do things others only dream of. There's a sense of pride sharing something you are passionate about. You help others enrich their own lives by experiencing the adventure of diving. If you want to live an extraordinary life, you're in the right place.
The PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor program is your final step in the quest to become a PADI Instructor. You will learn how to effectively use and adapt the PADI System of diver education to individual student needs. You will learn how to teach in classroom, pool and open water and how this training aspect of the diving industry interacts with all the other elements. You will see first hand how retail operations, resort operations and charter operations operate.

Dive Kauai Scuba Center is a PADI Gold Palm Resort Dive Center. We conduct all levels of PADI Programs from Discover Scuba Diving to
Assistant Instructor and professional enhancement programs. A Course Director will train you in the complete spectrum of recreational diving and prepare you for immediate employment in the diving industry. Dive Kauai's training is based on our experience in the dive industry, not just book study.
Instructor training can be broken down into 3 separate phases.
The 1st phase is the development of a candidates academic, water, rescue, teaching and leadership skills. This takes place prior to the PADI Instructor Evaluation (IE). The culmination of this phase is the Instructor Development Course (IDC). Students must successfully complete the prerequisites for the IDC prior to its start date. The IDC is a 8 day program designed to develop candidates with an understanding of the PADI System of Education, PADI Standards and Procedures, philosophies and teaching methods.
IDC's are scheduled to end several days prior to the IE. This gives our candidates time to participate in the IE preparatory course. Our IDC Staff will review dive theory in Physics, Physiology Skills and the Environment, Equipment and the Recreational Dive Planner. There will also be time to review PADI Systems, Standards and Procedures and any other areas candidates may want additional training in.
The 2nd phase of the Instructor training process is the PADI IE. The IE is a 2-day comprehensive program which evaluates Instructor candidate's knowledge, watermanship, rescue abilities, teaching problem solving and professionalism and is conducted by an objective Instructor Examiner from PADI International. The PADI examiners validate instructor qualification through their impartial 2-day evaluation process. Upon successful completion of the Instructor evaluation, the candidates will have earned the title of PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor.
The 3rd Phase of Instructor training is instructor continuing education. The most successful Scuba Instructors continue their professional education immediately after their Instructor Examination. The Emergency First Response Instructor course and the DAN Oxygen Instructor course are 2 programs that complement each other and give you additional tools to perform the full range of instructor duties.
After becoming a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) you'll want to teach divers specific types of diving dependant to what your local area offers. To do this you need to be able to teach PADI Specialties. By doing so you can heighten your students' comfort level and strengthening their underwater skills, ultimately leading to their enjoyment of diving more than ever before.
Additional PADI Specialty Instructor courses offered: Boat Diver, Deep Diver, Drift Diver, Enriched Air, Underwater Photo, Multilevel, Underwater Naturalist, Underwater Navigator, Night Diver, Peak Performance Buoyancy, Search and Recovery, Wreck, Diver Propulsion Vehicle and the new PADI Distinctive Specialty Oxygen Provider.
